BAM! Check it out! It took me several hours longer than I should have, but there it is: my first .gif. I'm so proud :P
You'll have to cut me some slack when it comes to colouring and stuff because I was experiementing with a lot of things. It's probably not going to be this wild/small usually (unless for some reason people want it to be :P)

I AM INTRIGUED. Why is the long-haired dude punching the guy with bangs/fringe?

And really smooth animation, nicely done :). How long do these things take you? I just took a look at skilltester, you guys are doing some amazing things. Mind if I pimp you on my LJ?
I tried doing your erase challenge but I gave up. I don't think I have the patience :(. Or time. Or natural affinity for graphics like you guys do :P

:P it's from the latest episode of Saturday Night Live, hosted by Zac Efron. Absolutely hilarious, you have to watch it :D

And really smooth animation
:D thankyou! I played a bit with the speed of certain parts of the animation so that my favourite bits would go on for longer and I'd skip through the less entertaining bits and I was worrying that it showed :P

How long do these things take you?
this particular animation took me about 2 hours, but that's because it took ages to find a way to rip the caps off frame by frame and then fit them all back together in photoshop and then figure out how to make the timing look good when viewed as a gif. Next time I imagine it'll take about 15 minutes :P

Mind if I pimp you on my LJ?
:O please, go ahead :D

Yeah, I know the challenges haven't really been geared towards your style of graphic-ing but luckily the challenge coming up should be right up your alley :D

hey hey don't you like in Australia? Isn't it like 4am over there? :O

Zac efron! haha, I thought so but I didn't wanna say in case it weren't and I looked stupid. But NOW I look stupid because I didn't recognise him. Sigh.

See, the animation process (in gif form) seems to be a really complicated process especially if you're colouring at the same time. I honestly thought it would take much longer than 15 mins even if you are well versed in it! Seriously, that quick? *ponders*
I don't think I would ever do animations but its nice to read tutorials on it. Any chance you have any beginner ones?

Cool :D. I'm posting some art later tonight/tomorrow so I'll add it then for better coverage :).

12:49, so... close :P

Hm, I don't know of any tutorials. Everything I've learnt I've taught myself in the last four hours, but here's everything I know:
1. get VirtualDub (or another video segmenting program) and use it to make an .avi of what you want to be in the animation. Make sure you're not compressing at all.
2. in Photoshop go to file>import>video frames as layers
3. make all of the colour/resizing adjustments while having the first animation frame selected
4. delete every second frame or so, but be sure not to delete the good ones :P
5. go to file>save for web and devices. Make sure you've got 256 colours, no lossy and 0% websnap (unless for some reason you want a smaller file size with lower quality) but DO NOT look at your animation at this point because it's not what it's going to look at in your final stage. Any judgements to speed or whether you need to delete extra frames and speed it up should be judged off of the .gif you save at this point

Clearly I'm no master, but let me know if I didn't make sense or you need help with anything :)

THIS does make lot of sense! You can laugh but I thought all the colouring would have to be repeated at each frame...and that's a hell of a lot of frames. It makes sense the way you've explained. It would be totally interesting to see if you could create a painted comic-version thingy with that process (I'm sure there are artists that do that but I've never seen it on LJ apart from maybe lim but she's very f-list only)

oh, this was just for animating scenes. Animating just pictures you've got is much easier; you can cancel out the first two steps :D

Photobucket
Heck yeah, this took 15 minutes! Ka pow! :D
nargynargynargynargy on April 16th, 2009 04:52 pm (UTC)
Yes but what if you wanted to do an arty version of a tv scene? I would require the first two steps no?

SERIOUSLY? WHAT WHAT IS THIS MADNESS? I like the purple in the corner, nice :D
